You think you know everything about the S.O.?
Join us and our very own Michelle Bessen, our patron relations coordinator and storyteller extraordinaire, for "20 Years Strong: The Story of the Summerville Orchestra!" Bessen has done a deep dive into the archives, interviewed major players in the S.O.'s history and pieced together a compelling story of the little orchestra that could! She'll be showcasing our modest but fervent beginnings, the bumps and stumbles along the way, the growing group, and the magic that brought us to where we are today - the nation's best performing community orchestra! Plus, she'll share the story of a car, some music and the local police.
Join us at our new office to hear our story. Pick your date from any of four consecutive Tuesdays: July 23, at 3 p.m., July 30, at 5 p.m., August 6 at 9 a.m, August 13, at 6 p.m and August 27, at 3 p.m. Be sure to register as seating is limited. We have a new event at the Ashley River branch at the Dorchester County Library. This event will be on September 10, at 5:30 p.m. The venue is located at 2824 Bacons Bridge Rd, in Summerville.
Many thanks to the S.C. Humanities for providing the funding that made this program and the "20 Years Strong" exhibit possible. The exhibit will become a permanent feature at the new Dorchester Heritage Center.
